Captain Don’s Habitat is one of the great SCUBA diving resorts in Bonaire. Founded in 1976, by renowned underwater environmentalist Captain Don Stewart, Captain Don’s Habitat has been in the forefront of environmentally sound developments on the island of Bonaire. This vision is also reflected in the design of the resort. From the low impact construction methods to the use of solar water heaters and energy-saving devices.
Captain Don’s Habitat offers a wide selection of accommodation, making this ideal for those who like the choice of the comforts of home with resort living. Divers and non-diver can also take advantage of the resort’s numerous amenities including pool, ocean front restaurant and bar, on-site full service dive center, boutique, spa and babysitting services.
Standard deluxe rooms and suites are outfitted with 2 queens or king bed, desk, cable TV, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hairdryer, laptop safe, full bath w/tub, telephone and secluded balcony or patio with comfortable furniture. More room to spread out is available, along with fully-equipped kitchens, in the 1, 2 and 3 bedroom bungalows or villas.
Scuba Highlights
Captain Don’s Habitat Dive Operation is centrally located within the resort complex for easy access from all rooms. Three 1-tank boat departures are offered daily, at 8.30 AM, 11 AM and 2 PM, to over 50 moored sights on the custom-built dive boats. Each mooring buoy is limited to 1 boat so you’ll have the reef all to yourself.
Total Diving Freedom has always been the concept at Captain Don’s Habitat. Over 50 world-class dives are within a 15-minute boat ride. Diving Freedom means 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no rush or anxiety. Shore diving is a must at Captain Don’s Habitat and around the island of Bonaire rated as the top shore diving destination in the world! Take a giant stride off the designated divers-only pier and you’re already looking at clusters of coral, surrounded by colorful reef life. The reef begins to drop off at 30 ft. and is a breeze to navigate. Following accepted safe diving practices, you can grab a tank and go diving at your leisure!
Location
Bonaire is located in the Southern Caribbean about 50 miles off the northern coast of Venezuela. The fact that it lies outside the hurricane belt and with our almost continuous sunshine and great weather, makes it an ideal vacation spot throughout the year.
Captain Don’s Habitat is ideally located approximately 2 miles north from the capital city of Kralendijk and 10 miles from the airport, along the west coast of Bonaire. Guests with car rental may enjoy easy access to the restaurants, bars, and shops of Bonaire’s charming capital.
Due to its positioning, this idyllic island is outside of the hurricane belt and consequently enjoys beautiful weather throughout the year. With average air temperatures of 82°F, and water temperatures averaging 80°F, there is little rainfall and easterly trade winds provide mild breezes to keep conditions ideal for vacationing year-round.
Bonaire also offers excellent scuba diving, snorkeling and windsurfing, and has been designated as having the most pristine coral reef environment and most species of fish in the Caribbean by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration.
