The climate varies depending on the destination of your cruise. Indonesia generally has a tropical and humid climate, with tropical rain showers possible at any time. We align our cruise schedule with the typical weather patterns in different areas of Indonesia to minimize exposure to poor weather. At sea, it can occasionally be windy, so if you’re sensitive to wind, consider bringing a light wind jacket.
Raja Ampat: The water temperature remains consistently warm, around 28-29°C (82-84°F) year-round. Occasionally, thermoclines at certain dive sites may lower the temperature to 26-27°C (79-81°F), though this is not common. Most guests find a 3mm wetsuit sufficient, while some who are more sensitive to the cold may prefer a 5mm wetsuit or simply use rash guards.
Komodo: Water temperatures in the north and central regions typically range from 27-29°C (81-84°F). In the southern areas, temperatures are usually a few degrees cooler, with possible thermoclines bringing temperatures down to 23-24°C (73-75°F).
Alor / Maumere: Cruises in and around Maumere and Alor usually experience water temperatures of 27-29°C (81-84°F). In the Pantar Strait, Pura Island, and Kalabahi Bay on Alor Island, temperatures may drop to 23-25°C (73-77°F). Occasionally, currents may bring colder water from the south, with temperatures reaching 19-20°C (66-68°F). On cruises passing through Alor, expect 5-6 dives in these cooler conditions.
Forgotten Islands, Banda & Ambon: Water temperatures in these regions typically range from 27-29°C (81-84°F) year-round, with occasional thermoclines causing temperatures to be slightly cooler at some dive sites.
On embarkation day, our team will warmly welcome you, giving you time to settle in, prepare your gear, and unwind after your travels. Our cruise directors will provide a comprehensive orientation covering onboard amenities, safety features and procedures, and the cruise itinerary. Typically, we use the afternoon and evening to navigate to the first dive site, with the first dive scheduled for the following morning.
The final two dives will take place on the morning before disembarkation day. We use the afternoon and evening to return to port, ensuring that we arrive in time for your departure flight on disembarkation day. Please note that this schedule may vary slightly depending on the port of disembarkation.
The evening before, our cruise directors will outline the plan for the following day, including the itinerary, wake-up times, and scheduled activities. They may adjust the plan as needed based on changing conditions.
In the morning, you’ll be notified with a knock on your door that it’s time for a light breakfast. After breakfast, a dive briefing will be conducted in the restaurant. Following the briefing, you’ll prepare your dive gear (wetsuit, dive computer, camera, etc.) on the dive deck. The rest of your equipment will be waiting for you in the tender. A short tender ride will take you to the first dive site. The dive guides will assess the current conditions and may adjust the dive plan if necessary before you dive in and enjoy the underwater adventure. After the dive, the tender will return you to the boat where you can enjoy dry towels and your next meal. The daily routine will be “eat, dive, relax, and repeat.”
Depending on the itinerary, you can expect 3 to 4 dives per day. The fourth dive may be a night dive or a sunset dive, based on the best conditions at the dive site. On certain days, we may also offer a land excursion to a scenic viewpoint or another point of interest, depending on the cruise destination.
At dive sites where currents are anticipated, our experienced dive guides assess the current direction and strength before divers enter the water. If they determine the current to be unmanageable, they will adjust the dive plan or select a different site. Before each dive, you’ll receive a detailed briefing about the dive site, including current conditions and recommendations. Depending on the site, we may conduct drift dives, use a zig-zag pattern, or carefully employ reef hooks to stabilize our position. Some sites may have no current at all.
To ensure a smooth experience, we typically start the cruise with sites that have mild currents, when possible. If you haven’t dived for two years or more, we recommend taking a refresher course to reacquaint yourself with scuba diving. We also strongly suggest the Advanced Open Water Diver Course, which will allow you to explore a wider range of dive sites and maintain optimal buoyancy to protect the pristine coral reefs and marine life.
